About Tango GRAZioso
Tango GRAZioso is a group of Tango enthusiasts that has been growing vividly since January 1994. Established as an "association for culture and dance" Tango GRAZioso has laid the foundations for a home of the folk dance and the feeling for Tango Argentino in Graz.
Encouraged by the work of Klaus Johns and his Quinteto Tango the association Tango GRAZioso has made Graz the Tango capital of Austria. Regular dance classes with European and Argentine maestros, dance events and concerts, supporting the Graz based tango ensembles as well as public relations activities form the central tasks of the group. The tango festivals that have been organised since 1998 are undoubtedly the highlights of its work.
One of the major concerns of Tango GRAZioso is the cultural exchange between Austria and Argentina, which includes journeys to Buenos Aires, the birth place and home town of Tango Argentino as well as visits of renowned tango artists to Graz.
The Argentine tango has not only gone through a brilliant renaissance in its home country and the former tango metropolis of Paris and Berlin but also in other parts of the world. A big variety of tango groups in numerous European and American cities are connected among each other via the world wide web making Tango Argentino a world wide phenomenon. Tango GRAZioso plays an active role in this community due to its presence in that international network.
