Review of the events in 2007

2007 was full of interesting tango events and premieres including one European premiere: four bands played for the first time in Graz on invitation of Tango GRAZioso, three tango maestros held for the first time workshops in Graz, and Dinner & Tango came up connecting good food to tango music. The following summary shows the most important events of the year:

In January the Graz based ensemble Quinteto Loco played for the first time at our milonga held on the occasion of the workshop weekend with Enrique Grahl & Judita Zapatero.

In February we organized a milonga at Casino Graz for the first time.

March came up with another premiere of music: Funyi Tango Trío from Buenos Aires played for the first time in Austria at our milonga at iKU at Kunsthaus Graz. This was the beginning of a series of monthly milongas held at this place. Martin Birnbaumer & Claudia Grava were invited again to hold a tango workshop.

After having organzied a Color Tango concert in 2005 Holger showed up in May with organizing a Europe premiere by inviting Carlos Libedinsky with Narcotango and Pablo Villarraza & Dana Frígoli to Orpheum Graz. "Una Semana con Pablo y Dana" was completed by a guided práctica and a workshop held at the weekend before the Orpheum concert. This was again a premiere as far as teaching is concerned as Pablo and Dana gave their first workshop in Austria on invitation of Tango GRAZioso.

June: After the workshops with Tamara & Dörte and the milongas at Dancing School Kummer and iKU we were actually pretending to make a summer break, but...

... August came in with the forth music premiere: the young and powerful musicians of Astillero from Buenos Aires first played a concert at Mariahilferplatz invited by Murszene and then boiled up the atmosphere at our milonga at mo.xx the following day. One of the cheeky musicians was Leonhard Bartussek (cello), who has been well known in Graz since playing with Mala Junta.

In October we offered the last tango premiere in 2007: Leandro Palou taught with his new partner Romina Godoy for the first time in Graz. The couple from Buenos Aires brightened our milonga at mo.xx with a show dance, the live music at the milonga came from Los del Abasto. At Dinner & Tango at iKU good food was properly linked to good music, we are longing for more!

Martin Birnbaumer & Claudia Grava held another workshop in November, that time accompanied by little Gabriel, the youngest tanguero ever being to Graz before :-) Tango GRAZioso organized another milonga at Schauspielhaus Graz.

While in December we danced the last milonga of the year at iKU, Google was kind enough to list our website tangograzioso.at as number 1 in Austria when searching for "tango" - this definitely made our webmaster smile ;-)
