Funyi Tango Trío
Formed at the beginning of 1997 (originally named "Hombres de Tango"), Funyi Tango Trío is essentially a classical Tango acoustic instrument formation: bandonion, guitar and double bass.
Its repertoire consists of classic tango pieces of great composers of the genre such as Aníbal Troilo, Pedro Laurenz, Juan de Dios Filiberto, Agustín Bardi, Julio De Caro, Pedro Maffia and Carlos Gardel, among others. These works, in soberly written arrangements, reflect a rich harmonic development and rescue the characteristic phrasing (fraseo) of tango. The arrangements have been conceived from a present-like sound, preserving the essential melodies and rhythm of tango.
A special comment deserves the recreations of memorable versions executed by the quartet of Aníbal Troilo and Roberto Grela, carefully transcribed and adapted for trio, in a certain way to make a tribute to these two great exponents of the genre, and of its respective instruments (bandoneon and guitar). Some examples of this are: "El Abrojito", "Taconeando", "La Cachila" and "La Trampera".
